Overview
This talk aims to raise general security awareness in the digital world, specifically to the non-technical users who are bombarded daily with a variety of emails from various, and often suspicious, sources and who are unknowing target in a growing campaign of cyber extortion and online crime.
It will outline the common types of threat, some trends and public incidents and then highlight the more common formats of email attack, what to look for and best practices to defend against them.

David was born in the UK, and educated in Hong Kong and the UK.
In 1975 he joined the Royal Hong Kong Police as a Probationary Inspector and thereafter served in a variety of Front-line, Support and Headquarters posts throughout Hong Kong. In his 33-year career he held a variety of Operational Command and HQ Staff positions and, in addition to his several front-line Operational Command roles, also served for many years as an Instructor In the Training Wing.
After retirement, David trained as a Career Coach and qualified as a Certified Executive Coach under the auspices of the International Coaching Federation. He now undertakes career, leadership and presentation coaching to independent clients under the name of his own company, Coaching Asia, based in Hong Kong. In addition to coaching students, graduates and corporate and private professional individuals, David also delivers lectures on general coaching and leadership subjects to Tertiary Institutions and conducts public-speaking and presentation classes and workshops to independent educational, training and corporate institutions.
Since 2017, David has also been engaged by Velocity Technology Ltd, an international IT Group, headquartered in Hong Kong, as the Programme Manager for their Security Awareness Training programme,s delivering Awareness Training in respect of general and common cyber threats and best practices of defence to Velocity clients, local and overseas.
He is a Life Member of the International Police Association and member of the International Coach Federation and The Institute of Executive Coaching & Leadership.
David has travelled extensively, enjoys motorcycling, and has a keen interest in digital photography. He now lives in Tung Chung, Lantau.
